چکیده
Abstract An unusually damaging Mw 4.9 earthquake occurred on November 11, 2019 in the south east of France within lower Rhône river valley, an industrial region that hosts several operating nuclear power plants. The hypocentre this event at exceptionally shallow depth about 1 km. Here we use far-field seismological observations to demonstrate rupture properties are consistent with those commonly observed for large deeper earthquakes. In absence strong motion sensors fault vicinity, perform numerical predictions ground acceleration a virtual array near-fault stations. These agreement independent quantitative estimations from in-situ displaced objects. Both and analyses converge toward estimates exceptional level locally exceeded gravity, explain unexpectedly significant damage.

In comparing the ground motions recorded during different earthquakes at each of the six stations and in correlations of these motions recorded at different stations during the same...
متن کاملShallow Rupture of the 2011 Tarlay Earthquake (Mw 6.8), Eastern Myanmar
We use L-band Advanced Land Observation Satellite PALSAR data to infer the distribution of subsurface fault slip during the Tarlay earthquake (Mw 6.8) in eastern Myanmar. We find the total length of surface rupture is approximately 30 km, with nearly 2 m maximum surface offset along the westernmost section of the Nam Ma fault (the Tarlay segment). Finite-fault inversions constrained by Interfer...
متن کاملEarthquake ground motion prediction using the ambient seismic field
[1] The waves generated by faulting represent the primary threat posed by most large earthquakes. The effect of complex geological structures, such as sedimentary basins, on earthquake ground motion is a source of particular concern. We show that it is possible to extract reliable phase and amplitude response that includes the effects of complex structure for the elastodynamic Green’s function ...
متن کاملA Strong Ground Motion Catalogue of Selected Records for Shallow Crustal, Near Field Earthquakes in Iran
Understanding strong ground motions in the near-fault areas is important for seismic risk assessment in densely populated areas. In the past, lack of information on strong ground motion for large and moderate earthquakes led to the use of mainly far field large and moderate earthquake records in equations for calculation of the strong ground motion parameters. In this article, we collected and ...
